Printer Settings for Vetspire

Admin rights may be necessary to change these printer settings.

These are the recommended settings for document and label printers to be utilized with Vetspire.

  1. In the Windows search bar, search for and open Print Management.

For Service Desk Members

If you search for the Print Management app and it does not show, follow these steps:

  1. In the Windows search bar, search for Command Prompt.

  2. Right-click and run Command Prompt as an admin.

  3. Copy and paste the below command into the Command Prompt window.

dism /Online /add-Capability /CapabilityName:Print.Management.Console~~~~0.0.1.0

  1. Press Enter to run the command. This may take a few minutes to complete.

  2. Once the command is complete, proceed to the next step below.

  1. Select the arrow to the left of Custom Filters to expand the section if it’s not already expanded.

  2. Select All Printers and right-click the printer you installed in the above steps.

  3. Select Printer Properties then the Ports tab.

  4. Mark the checkbox for the port containing the printer's static IP address. E.g. 192.168.1.33 or IP_192.168.1.33. Once marked, move on to Step 16. If you do not see this port, move on to Step 8.

  5. Select Standard TCP/IP Port then select Next.

  6. Enter the static IP address of the printer in both fields. While typing in the IP address seeing the port name with an underscore and a number at the end means the port already exists on this computer. In this case, select Cancel, select Cancel again, and proceed to Step 15.

  7. Select Next.

  8. If you receive a prompt for additional port required, follow the steps on the screen. If everything is correct, select Next then select Finish and then Close.

  9. Mark the checkbox for the port containing the printer's static IP address (E.g. 192.168.1.33 or IP_192.168.1.33…)

  10. From the Advanced tab, set the driver to the manufacturer’s recommended driver. This can be checked by searching for the printer’s model number on the manufacturer’s website. If you do not see the correct driver in the drop-down, install it, and select the driver.

  11. Select Apply then navigate to the General tab.

  12. Set the top text box to the desired friendly name of the printer. Check with a PM or an onsite leader for the preferred friendly name. Typically the name would describe where the printer is located in the hospital and whether it is a label printer (E.g. Front Desk Printer, Front Desk Label Printer, Pharmacy Printer, Pharmacy Label Printer…).

  13. Select Okay.

Google Chrome Printing

If using Google Chrome to print from Vetspire, Chrome may ask where to save the PDF file to print on every print job. By default this isn’t an issue as Chrome defaults to sending downloads to the download folder but some times this feature gets enabled. If this is the case, follow the below steps to turn the feature off.

  1.  Click the menu button in the upper-right corner.

Note: By default, Google Chrome will save to your downloads folder. If this is your preferred location you may omit step 5.
